Which Word tool to use
Use Word to text when you only need the words, for pasting into a form, an email or an AI chat, without the fonts and layout. Word to HTML keeps headings, lists, bold and links, which suits pasting into a website editor or CMS. Word count gives words, characters and paragraphs for essays and applications with a length limit. Extract images saves every picture in the file at its original resolution, which is quicker than screenshotting them one by one. Word metadata shows the author, title, dates and revision count that travel inside the file, so you can check them before sending a document outside your organisation.
What these tools read
They read .docx, the format Word has saved by default since 2007, as well as files from Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages exported as Word. The older binary .doc format is not supported; open it and save it as .docx first. Each file is read inside your browser tab, so drafts, contracts and CVs are never uploaded.
