Unzip Files opens standard ZIP archives on devices where that is awkward, such as a shared or locked-down computer or a Chromebook, and checks the archive for unsafe paths before extracting anything. It handles archives made by Windows, macOS and most common tools, as long as they use standard compression and no password.

Safety checks, then extraction

The archive is read in your browser. Entries with paths that try to escape their folder are refused, and extraction stops if the archive has more than 2,000 entries or expands beyond 250 MB, which protects against "zip bombs".

Supported archives

Standard ZIP files work. Password-protected, split (multi-part) and damaged ZIPs can't be opened, and RAR and 7z are different formats. Be careful opening program files (.exe, .bat, .js) from senders you don't know.

  • Check the file count matches what you expected.
  • Archives made with 7-Zip's advanced methods (such as LZMA or Deflate64) may not open; re-create them with standard ZIP compression.

No. Encrypted ZIPs aren't supported. Use your computer's built-in archive tool with the password.
