Compress an image to 2 MB
Get a photo under 2 MB for upload boxes that say “max 2 MB”. This changes the file size, not the width and height in pixels. The target is already set.

Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to get a photo's file size under 2 MB
Add the photo and download it. The compressor keeps as much quality as fits under 2 MB, so the result is usually between 1.5 and 2 MB. Phone photos (typically 2–6 MB) need only a small quality change and keep their full pixel dimensions; only very large camera files are also scaled down, and then to a size that still fills a 4K screen.
Step by step
- 01Add the photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC).
- 02The 2 MB target is already set.
- 03Check the new file size shown on the result.
- 04Download and upload.
“2 MB” is file size, not pixels
A 2 MB limit is about how much storage the file takes. It says nothing about width and height: a 4000 × 3000 photo can be 1.8 MB or 6 MB depending on compression. If a form instead asks for something like 600 × 600 pixels, that is a dimension rule; check the dimensions first and resize, then come back here only if the file is still too big.
- File size: KB or MB, fixed here.
- Dimensions: width × height in pixels, fixed with Resize image.
- Not sure which one the form means? Read the error message: “MB” or “KB” means file size.
Common 2 MB limits
Many web forms, job portals, content management systems and support desks cap each attachment at 2 MB. Portrait-mode and high-resolution phone photos, and anything from a dedicated camera, often land just over.
Screenshots and graphics
A large PNG screenshot can be several megabytes. The compressor first tries a PNG with fewer colours, which keeps text sharp; if that can't fit, it saves a JPG, which softens text edges a little.
How "2 MB" is counted
This page aims at 2,000,000 bytes or less. Upload forms disagree on what 2 MB means: some count 2,000,000 bytes, others 2,097,152 (1 MB = 1,024 × 1,024 bytes). A file of 2,000,000 bytes or less passes either rule, so you can type the limit exactly as the form writes it. The result shows the exact byte count. Windows File Explorer counts in 1,024s, so the same file can read slightly smaller there.
Questions
Does compressing to 2 MB change the photo's pixel size?
Usually not. Most phone photos fit under 2 MB at full width and height with a small quality change. Only very large images are also scaled down, and the result tells you when that happened.
What is a 2 MB photo size in pixels?
There's no fixed answer, because file size depends on compression as well as pixels. As a rough guide, a typical JPG photo up to about 4000 × 3000 pixels fits in 2 MB at good quality. To read your photo's exact dimensions, use the pixel checker.
Will the 2 MB photo still print well?
Usually yes for standard photo prints, because a 2 MB JPG keeps millions of pixels. For large prints, keep the original.
Can I choose WebP instead?
Yes. Change the output format on the tool. WebP fits more quality into the same size, but check the site you are uploading to accepts it.
Does it change my original file?
No. You download a new copy; the original on your device is untouched.
