Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Add photos of each page, taken from above on a darker surface. HEIC from iPhone works.
Specific jobsPhoto to PDF scan
Turn phone photos of paper into a clean, straight PDF
A phone photo of a page usually comes out skewed, shadowed and full of desk. Document Scanner finds the page in each photo, flattens it into a straight rectangle, evens out the lighting so the paper turns white, and saves every page in order as one PDF or as separate JPGs. It is for the moments when there is no scanner nearby and someone needs the paperwork today.
- Scanning receipts and invoices for an expense claim or your tax records.
- Sending back a signed contract, consent form or lease when all you have is a phone.
- Proof of address, certificates and letters for visa, rental or job applications.
- Turning handwritten notes, homework or a whiteboard into one PDF.
Corners, look, output and page size
Each photo gets four corner handles. Auto-detect looks for paper that is brighter than what surrounds it, so it works best with the page on a darker, plain surface. On a white table or a patterned cloth it may miss the edge; drag the corners onto the page yourself (a focused corner moves with the arrow keys, Shift for bigger steps). Whole photo skips the crop, and the rotate buttons turn a sideways page. Pages follow the order of the file list; drag rows to reorder them.
- Colour: evens out the lighting but keeps ink, stamps, highlighter and logos in colour. Stored as JPG.
- Grayscale: shades of grey on a white page; keeps pencil, faint print and stamps readable.
- B&W: black text on pure white, the crispest look for typed letters and printed forms. Stored losslessly so edges stay sharp.
- Save as PDF (one page per photo) or JPG (one image per page).
- Page size (PDF only): A4 or Letter centres each page on standard paper for printing; Fit makes each PDF page the shape of the scanned page.
What the clean-up can't fix
Pages are saved at up to 3508 px on the long edge (A4 at 300 DPI), but the result can only be as sharp as the photo: a blurred or dim shot stays blurred. Hard shadows across text and glare on glossy paper can survive the clean-up. The PDF holds pictures of the pages, not searchable text, so use Image to text if you need to copy words out. B&W can drop very faint pencil, light-blue ink and fading thermal-paper receipts; switch to Grayscale if strokes vanish.
- Zoom into every page and read the totals, dates and signatures before sending.
- Check the page order and that no page is upside down.
- Shoot from directly above in even daylight, without flash, for the cleanest result.
- Portal size limit? Run the finished PDF through Compress PDF.
Document scanner: questions
Why didn't it find the edges of my page?
Auto-detect looks for paper that is brighter than its surroundings. On a white table, a patterned cloth or in dim light it can miss the edge. Drag the four corners onto the page, or retake the photo with the page on a darker, plain surface.
Which look is best for receipts?
Grayscale for most receipts. Thermal-paper receipts fade, and B&W can drop faint print entirely. Use B&W for crisp typed letters and forms, and Colour when stamps, highlighter or coloured ink matter.
Can I scan several pages into one PDF?
Yes. Add all the photos; each becomes one page in the order of the file list. Drag rows to reorder them before saving.
Is the scanned PDF searchable?
No. The PDF contains images of the pages. To copy or search the words, run the pages through Image to text (OCR).
How do I get the PDF under an upload limit?
B&W pages are usually the smallest for text documents. If the PDF is still too large, run it through Compress PDF and type the portal's limit as the target size.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. Edge detection, straightening and building the PDF all happen in your browser, so receipts and contracts stay on your device.
