Compress a PDF to 500 KB
A roomy limit: most short scans fit at good quality, and many typed PDFs fit in text-safe mode.

Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to compress a PDF to 500 KB
Add the PDF and run it. At 500 KB, typed documents with a few photos usually fit in text-safe mode, keeping text and links. Scans are re-rendered at the best resolution that fits, which for up to about ten pages still looks close to the original on screen.
Step by step
- 01Add the PDF; the 500 KB target is set.
- 02Run it.
- 03Check whether the result says text-safe or rasterized.
- 04Download and upload where you need it.
Text-safe or rasterized: how to tell
The result panel names the method. Text-safe means text, links and form fields are unchanged. Rasterized means pages are now images: fine for uploading a scan, not for a document someone needs to search or copy from.
How "500 KB" is counted
This page aims at 500,000 bytes or less. Upload forms disagree on what 500 KB means: some count 500,000 bytes, others 512,000 (1 KB = 1,024 bytes). A file of 500,000 bytes or less passes either rule, so you can type the limit exactly as the form writes it. The result shows the exact byte count. Windows File Explorer counts in 1,024s, so the same file can read slightly smaller there.
Questions
Can I keep the text selectable?
If text-safe optimisation reaches 500 KB, yes, and it is always tried first. If the PDF is mostly scanned pages, there was no selectable text to begin with.
How long does it take?
Seconds for a few pages. Longer scans take longer because each attempt re-renders every page; progress shows each attempt.
Is there a page limit?
No fixed limit, but very long PDFs may not fit 500 KB at readable quality. Split them first.
