Check an image's pixel size and file size before uploading

Forms reject photos for being the wrong dimensions or too many KB, and the error rarely says by how much. Image Dimensions reads width, height, aspect ratio, format and file size so you know exactly what to change. It reads the image locally and doesn't change it.

  • Checking a photo meets a portal's width × height and KB rules.
  • Confirming an image is large enough for print or a banner.
  • Finding the aspect ratio before cropping for a thumbnail.

Width and height are reported in pixels as the image is shown, so phone photos with a rotation tag report their upright dimensions. File size is the exact size on disk.

DPI isn't pixel size

Forms that mention DPI usually care about pixel dimensions or print size. This tool reports pixels; to get print size, divide pixels by DPI (for example 600 px at 300 DPI is 2 inches).

How do I check a photo's size in pixels?

Choose the image; width, height, aspect ratio, format and file size are shown straight away.

How do I convert pixels to inches or cm?

Divide pixels by the DPI to get inches (600 px at 300 DPI = 2 inches), then multiply by 2.54 for centimetres.

Why do the dimensions differ from what my phone shows?

This shows the image as displayed upright. Some apps report the stored sensor orientation, which swaps width and height.

Does it show the DPI?

No. DPI is only a print-size hint; online forms almost always check pixel dimensions and KB.
