Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Open AVIF images in apps and forms that don't accept them

AVIF is a newer format that websites and some phones use because it is compact, but older photo viewers, Office versions, print kiosks and many upload forms still reject it. AVIF to JPG converts one image or a batch to the format everything accepts.

  • Using an image saved from a website in Word, PowerPoint or an older editor.
  • Uploading an AVIF picture to a form that accepts only JPG.
  • Printing at a kiosk or photo shop.

Quality controls size

JPG is lossy: around 80% quality stays visually close to the source, and lower values shrink the file at the cost of detail. Because AVIF compresses better than JPG, the JPG is often larger than the AVIF you started with. Each file in a batch is converted separately.

Transparency and animation

Transparent areas become white, and an animated AVIF is saved as a single still frame. Opening AVIF relies on your browser's built-in support, which all current major browsers have.

  • Check the image isn't a small thumbnail; converting won't add detail.

AVIF to JPG: questions

Why is the JPG bigger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses better than JPG, so the same picture takes more space as JPG. Lower the quality slightly if size matters.

What happens to transparent areas?

They become white, because JPG has no transparency. Use AVIF to PNG to keep them.

Can I convert several AVIF files at once?

Yes. Add them together; each is converted separately.

Are my images uploaded?

No. They are decoded and converted in your browser.
