Make a correctly sized passport or visa photo
Passport, visa and ID applications specify an exact photo size and a plain background. Passport Photo Maker crops your photo to a standard size, can replace the background with white or light blue, and lays out single photos or printable sheets, so you can print at a photo shop or upload a digital copy.
- Preparing a 35 × 45 mm photo, the size used for UK passports, Schengen visas, Australia, Japan and many other countries.
- Making a 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) photo for a US passport or an Indian visa.
- Using the China visa (33 × 48 mm) or Canada (50 × 70 mm) presets.
- Printing several copies on one 4 × 6 inch photo print or A4 sheet.
- Creating a digital photo for an online application.
Size preset, background, layout and resolution
Choose the preset for your country or document, then position your face using the head and eye guide lines, which show the head size that preset expects. Background can stay as it is, or be replaced with white or light blue. Layout gives you one photo, a 4 × 6 inch sheet, or an A4 sheet of copies. 300 DPI is standard for prints and online uploads; 600 DPI gives a larger, sharper file.
- Use a photo taken in even light against a plain wall; it makes background replacement cleaner.
- For online forms, check the portal's pixel and KB limits; resize or compress the single-photo output if needed.
- Print sheets at actual size (100%), not "fit to page", or the photos will be the wrong size.
The tool sizes the photo; you still need to meet the rules
It can't judge whether a photo will be accepted. The guides help with head size, but official rules also cover neutral expression, open eyes, no glasses on some documents, no shadows and a recent photo. Check the issuing authority's current requirements, as they change.
- Check the head is centred and the top of the head and chin are both inside the frame.
- Look closely at hair edges if you replaced the background.
- Measure a printed copy with a ruler.
Passport photo maker: questions
What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country. 35 × 45 mm is used by the UK, Schengen visas, Australia, Japan and many others; the US and Indian visas use 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm); Canada uses 50 × 70 mm. Choose the matching preset and check the issuing authority's current rules.
How do I print passport photos at home or a photo shop?
Choose the 4 × 6 inch sheet and print it as a standard 4 × 6 photo at 100% scale. Don't use "fit to page", or the photos will be resized.
Can I change the background to white?
Yes. Choose white or light blue and the background is replaced. A plain wall and even lighting make the edges cleaner.
Will my photo definitely be accepted?
The tool sets the size and background, and its guide lines help with head size, but acceptance also depends on expression, lighting, glasses and how recent the photo is. Check the official guidance before submitting.
Which DPI should I choose?
300 DPI suits prints and most online forms. 600 DPI gives a larger, sharper file if the print shop asks for it.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is cropped and laid out in your browser, on your device.
