Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Convert a JPG when an app or site needs PNG

Some design tools, sticker makers, printing services and upload forms ask for PNG. It is also the format to use before you edit an image repeatedly, because saving PNG again doesn't add more compression loss each time.

  • Meeting a website or print shop's PNG-only requirement.
  • Preparing a photo for repeated editing without extra JPG artefacts.
  • Getting a PNG base before removing the background.
  • Uploading to a sticker, print-on-demand or design tool that asks for PNG.

Lossless output, no quality setting

The JPG is decoded and saved as PNG exactly as it looks, at the same pixel dimensions. There's no quality slider because PNG doesn't discard detail. Batches convert each file separately, so one bad file doesn't stop the rest.

PNG won't improve quality and will be bigger

Converting can't restore detail already lost to JPG compression, and the PNG will usually be several times larger in KB. Converting also doesn't make the background transparent; use Remove Background for that.

  • Check the file size if you're uploading somewhere with a limit.
  • If a form has a KB limit, stay with JPG; PNG is almost always bigger.

JPG to PNG: questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG keeps exactly what's in the JPG, including any compression artefacts; it can't restore lost detail.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. Photos typically become several times larger.

Will the background become transparent?

No. To make a transparent background, use Remove Background.

When should I convert JPG to PNG?

When a site or app requires PNG, or before editing an image many times so each save doesn't add more JPG loss.
