Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to reduce a photo to 30 KB
Drop the photo in and download. The compressor searches for the highest JPG quality that fits under 30 KB and only shrinks the pixel size if quality alone can't get there. For a cropped head-and-shoulders photo, 30 KB keeps a face clearly recognisable.
Step by step
- 01Crop the photo or signature to what the form needs.
- 02Add it to the tool; the 30 KB target is set.
- 03Check the size shown next to the result and zoom in on the face.
- 04Upload, and keep the original.
Where 30 KB limits come up
Recruitment portals, exam registrations, university applications and some visa and ID systems cap photos and signatures somewhere between 20 and 50 KB. Each notice sets its own numbers, often with a separate limit for the signature, so check the current instructions before you start.
Getting a sharper result
If the result looks soft, the image still has more pixels than 30 KB can carry well. Cropping away background, or resizing to the dimensions the form gives, lets the compressor spend the budget on the parts that matter.
- Plain backgrounds compress far better than busy ones.
- Avoid digital zoom and filters; noise costs bytes.
- iPhone HEIC photos work too and come out as JPG.
How "30 KB" is counted
This page aims at 30,000 bytes or less. Upload forms disagree on what 30 KB means: some count 30,000 bytes, others 30,720 (1 KB = 1,024 bytes). A file of 30,000 bytes or less passes either rule, so you can type the limit exactly as the form writes it. The result shows the exact byte count. Windows File Explorer counts in 1,024s, so the same file can read slightly smaller there.
Questions
Why is the result 28 KB and not 30 KB?
The compressor keeps the best quality that stays under the target. JPG sizes move in steps, so the file usually lands a little below 30 KB rather than exactly on it.
Should I use JPG or PNG for a 30 KB limit?
JPG, unless the form insists on PNG. A PNG photo is almost always too large at this size. This page already sets JPG output.
Can I compress a photo and a signature together?
Yes. Add both and each is compressed to the 30 KB target. If the signature has a smaller limit, run it again with that number.
Does my photo leave my computer?
No. It's compressed inside this browser tab and nothing is sent to a server.
