Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to make an image 200 KB or smaller

Drop the image in. The compressor finds the best JPG quality that fits under 200 KB, and resizes only if it has to. 200 KB is generous enough that most document photos stay sharp, so it is a good limit for anything with small print.

Step by step

  1. 01Add the scan or photo.
  2. 02Leave the 200 KB target as set, or type a different number.
  3. 03Zoom in on the result to check the small print.
  4. 04Download and upload.

What people send at 200 KB

Scans of identity documents, address proof and certificates for government and bank portals, supporting documents on job applications, and photos for online listings where the site recompresses anything larger.

Keep text readable

Document scans have hard edges that show compression artefacts quickly. If you see smudges around letters, crop away margins so more of the 200 KB goes to the text, and make sure the scan isn't far larger in pixels than it needs to be. Around 1,600 px on the long side is plenty for an A4 page on screen.

How "200 KB" is counted

This page aims at 200,000 bytes or less. Upload forms disagree on what 200 KB means: some count 200,000 bytes, others 204,800 (1 KB = 1,024 bytes). A file of 200,000 bytes or less passes either rule, so you can type the limit exactly as the form writes it. The result shows the exact byte count. Windows File Explorer counts in 1,024s, so the same file can read slightly smaller there.

Questions

Can I compress a PDF to 200 KB here?

No, this page is for images. Use Compress PDF for PDFs; for a one-page scan, you can also convert the page to JPG, compress it here and convert it back.

Why is my file already under 200 KB but the result is smaller still?

The target is a ceiling, not a goal. If your image already fits, the compressor simply re-saves it at high quality, which may trim a little more.

Does it work with iPhone photos?

Yes. HEIC photos are decoded in the browser and saved as JPG.
