Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Open images saved from websites in any app

Right-click "Save image" on many websites gives you a .webp file, which older photo viewers, Office versions, printing kiosks and upload forms may refuse. WebP to JPG converts it to the format everything accepts. Browsers often save pictures as WebP even when the page seemed to show an ordinary photo, which is why the file type catches people out.

  • Using an image saved from a website in Word, PowerPoint or an older editor.
  • Uploading a WebP picture to a form that accepts only JPG.
  • Printing images at a kiosk or photo shop.

Pick a quality, convert in bulk

The quality setting trades size for detail; the default keeps images visually close to the source. Several files can be converted at once, each handled separately.

  • 80–90% keeps photos close to the source; going higher adds size without recovering detail, because the WebP was already compressed.

Transparency and animation

Transparent areas become white in JPG; convert to PNG instead if you need to keep them. Animated WebP files are saved as a single still frame.

  • Check the image isn't a low-resolution thumbnail; conversion won't add detail.

WebP to JPG: questions

Why do images I save from websites end up as WebP?

Many sites serve WebP because it's smaller. Your browser saves the file in the format it received.

Will I lose quality converting WebP to JPG?

A little, since both are usually lossy. At the default quality the difference is hard to see.

What happens to animated WebP files?

They're saved as a single still frame.

What happens to transparency?

JPG has none, so transparent areas become white. Use WebP to PNG to keep transparency.
