Convert HEIC photos to lossless PNG

PNG is the right target when you want to edit an iPhone photo without adding JPG compression artefacts, or when a design tool or website prefers PNG. It is also accepted almost everywhere HEIC isn't. Use HEIC to JPG instead when you just need to share or upload the photo.

PNG files are big

A 12-megapixel photo saved as PNG is typically many times the size of the HEIC original. Treat date and location metadata as not carried over, and Live Photo motion isn't included.

Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?

JPG for sharing and uploading, because it's much smaller. PNG when you want a lossless copy for editing.

Why are the PNG files so big?

PNG is lossless, so photos can be several times the size of the HEIC. That's expected.

Are Live Photos converted?

Only the still image. The motion part of a Live Photo isn't included.

Can I convert a whole batch?

Yes. Each file is converted independently.
