Listen to the edges
Play the selection before saving to make sure it doesn't start mid-word. MP3 output is re-encoded, which is inaudible at 192 kbps for most listeners. Very long files take longer to draw the waveform; the cut still works while it loads.

How do I cut an MP3?

How do I make a ringtone?
Select up to 30–40 seconds of the song and save it. For iPhone, save as M4A and rename it to .m4r before adding it in Finder or iTunes.
Does cutting reduce quality?
MP3 output is re-encoded at 192 kbps, which is inaudible for most listeners. M4A copies AAC audio untouched when the source is AAC.
Can I cut WAV and M4A files too?
Yes. MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and AAC all work, and you can save as MP3, M4A or WAV.
