Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How big can an emailed video be?

At the time of writing, Gmail and Yahoo allow 25 MB of attachments per message and Outlook.com 20 MB. Attachments grow by about a third when they're encoded for sending, so aim below the stated limit. This page aims at 20 MB and checks the final size; if a message still bounces, try 18 MB.

Step by step

  1. 01Drop the video. The 20 MB target is set.
  2. 02Press Compress video and wait; it runs on your computer.
  3. 03Check the size in the result, then attach the MP4.

Too long to fit?

A 20 MB budget holds about two to three minutes at 720p. For longer videos, trim first, or share through a cloud link instead of an attachment.

Why MP4

H.264 MP4 opens on every phone and computer without extra software, and email apps can preview it.

How "20 MB" is counted

This page aims at 20,000,000 bytes or less. Upload forms disagree on what 20 MB means: some count 20,000,000 bytes, others 20,971,520 (1 MB = 1,024 × 1,024 bytes). A file of 20,000,000 bytes or less passes either rule, so you can type the limit exactly as the form writes it. The result shows the exact byte count. Windows File Explorer counts in 1,024s, so the same file can read slightly smaller there.

Questions

Gmail says the file is too large even though it's under 25 MB. Why?

The 25 MB limit counts the encoded message, which is larger than the file. Keep attachments around 20 MB or less.

Can I pick a different size?

Yes. Choose a preset or type any size in the Custom field.

Does the video leave my device?

No. The whole encode runs in this browser tab.
