Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to compress a JPG
Drop one or more JPGs and press Compress. At the preset 78% quality most phone photos shrink by half or more with no difference you can see at normal viewing size. If a form gives a limit, switch to Target size and type it in KB; the compressor then searches for the highest quality that fits.
Step by step
- 01Add JPG or JPEG files, one or a whole folder's worth.
- 02Keep 78% quality, or switch to Target size and type a KB limit.
- 03Compress and compare the before → after sizes.
- 04Download one file, or all of them as a ZIP.
What JPG quality actually changes
JPG stores a photo as 8 × 8 pixel blocks and throws away detail the eye barely notices. The quality number decides how much: 90% is close to the original, 70–80% is the sweet spot for photos on screens, and below 50% blocks and smeared edges start to show, first around text and sharp lines.
- Photos for web pages and email: 70–80%.
- Photos you might print: 85–90%.
- Hard KB limit on a form: use Target size instead of guessing a quality.
Camera details and orientation
Keep camera metadata copies the EXIF block (date, camera model, location) and the colour profile into the compressed JPG. Turn it off to share a photo without its location. Orientation is applied to the pixels, so the photo stays upright everywhere.
Questions
How much smaller will my JPG get?
A phone photo at 78% quality usually comes out 40–70% smaller. A JPG that was already saved at low quality has little left to remove; if re-encoding would make it bigger, the original is kept.
Does compressing a JPG twice make it worse?
Every JPG save loses a little detail, so compress from the original when you can rather than from an already-compressed copy.
Can I compress a JPG to an exact size like 100 KB?
Yes. Switch to Target size and type 100. It finds the best quality under 100 KB and only scales the photo down if quality alone can't get there.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are compressed in this browser tab; the network meter shows 0 B sent.
