Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Make smaller photos for the web
AVIF usually holds the same visible quality as JPG in a noticeably smaller file, which helps page speed on blogs, shops and portfolios. All current major browsers display it.
- Reducing the weight of product and blog photos.
- Saving storage for images that are only viewed on screen.
- Preparing modern image formats for a website build.
Quality, and a one-time encoder download
Lower quality means smaller files; the default is a sensible middle. Browsers that can encode AVIF natively use that; otherwise an AVIF encoder (libavif, about 3.5 MB) is downloaded the first time you save one. AVIF encoding is slower than JPG, so large batches take a while.
- Resize very large photos first; dimensions matter more than format for web speed.
Not every place accepts AVIF
Government and exam portals, older software, email clients and some social apps may reject AVIF. Keep the JPG originals for those, since converting back adds a second round of compression.
- Compare the file size with the original.
- Open the result where you plan to use it.
JPG to AVIF: questions
How much smaller is AVIF than JPG?
It depends on the photo and the quality you pick; AVIF is usually noticeably smaller at the same visible quality. Compare the sizes shown in the result.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
If your browser can't encode AVIF itself, an AVIF encoder (about 3.5 MB) is downloaded the first time. AVIF encoding is also slower than JPG in general.
Can I upload AVIF to any website?
No. Many forms, portals and older apps accept only JPG or PNG. Keep the originals for those.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are encoded in your browser.
