Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Shrink PNG graphics and screenshots for the web
PNG files, especially photos and large screenshots, can be several times bigger than they need to be for a website. PNG to AVIF converts them to a compact format that keeps transparency, so logos and cut-outs still sit cleanly on any background.
- Lighter hero images and product cut-outs for a website.
- Reducing screenshot-heavy documentation pages.
- Keeping transparent graphics small.
Quality applies, unlike PNG
AVIF is lossy at normal settings, so the quality slider matters: keep it higher for screenshots with small text and sharp edges. If your browser can't encode AVIF itself, a 3.5 MB encoder is downloaded on first use.
Check edges and text
Lossy compression can soften thin lines and small text in screenshots and UI graphics. AVIF isn't accepted by many forms and older apps, so keep the PNG originals.
- Zoom into text and fine lines.
- Check transparent edges on a dark background.
PNG to AVIF: questions
Does AVIF keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent, so logos and cut-outs still work on any background.
Will screenshots lose sharpness?
At lower quality, thin lines and small text can soften. Keep the quality high for screenshots, or keep them as PNG.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
Browsers without a built-in AVIF encoder download one (about 3.5 MB) on first use.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser.
