Resize an image to 600 × 600 pixels
Width and height are set to 600 px. A photo that isn't square is trimmed evenly to a square, so nothing is stretched.

Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to make a photo 600 × 600
Drop the photo in and download. If it isn't square, the tool trims the long side evenly so the result is exactly 600 × 600 without squashing anything. To choose which part is kept, crop it square first with Make image square or Crop image.
Step by step
- 01Want to pick what gets trimmed? Crop it square first; otherwise skip this.
- 02Add it here; 600 × 600 is already set.
- 03Download and check the face or subject isn't distorted.
- 04Compress it afterwards if the form also has a KB limit.
Where 600 × 600 is asked for
The US Department of State's online photo tool for passports and visas (DS-160) wants a square photo of at least 600 × 600 and at most 1200 × 1200 pixels. Many profile-picture, membership and ID-card systems also use a 600 px square because it looks sharp in small circles and squares.
Passport and visa photos need more than a size
Official photos have rules about head size, background colour and framing, not only pixels. The passport photo maker crops to those guides and can put the photo on a plain background, which is safer than resizing an arbitrary photo.
Questions
Will a rectangular photo look stretched?
No. Crop to fill is on, so the edges of the long side are trimmed evenly instead. If you would rather keep the whole picture and accept distortion, switch the option to Stretch.
Is 600×600 good enough quality?
For screens, yes. It is 0.36 megapixels, which prints at about 2 × 2 inches at 300 DPI, the standard US passport print size.
Will the file size go down?
Almost always, because the image has far fewer pixels. If a form also caps the file at, say, 240 KB, run it through the compressor after resizing.
