Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Get a video under an upload or attachment limit
Phones record at high bitrates, so a minute of 1080p or 4K footage can run to tens or hundreds of megabytes, while chat apps, email and forms stop at 10, 16 or 25 MB. Compress video re-encodes a video to fit a size you choose. It works out a bitrate from the target and the video's length, encodes H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4, checks the real size, and re-encodes once at a lower bitrate if the first pass came out over.
- Discord: 10 MB for free accounts at the time of writing.
- Email: about 20 MB, so the attachment clears Gmail's and Outlook's 20–25 MB limits once it is encoded for sending.
- WhatsApp: 16 MB has long been the limit for videos sent as media; check the current number in the app.
- Job applications, course portals and support forms with a fixed MB limit.
Target size, resolution and audio
Choose 8, 10, 16, 25 or 50 MB, or type a custom size. Before you run it, the panel shows the planned video and audio bitrate, the output picture size, a quality rating (Good, Fair or Low) and the expected size. Resolution on Auto starts at the video's own size and steps down through 1080p, 720p, 540p, 480p and lower until there are enough bits per pixel for a clean picture, because a sharp 720p looks better than a blocky 1080p. Keep holds the original size, or pick 1080p, 720p or 480p yourself. Remove audio gives the sound's share of the budget to the picture.
- If the target is roomier than the video needs, the bitrate is capped at the source's own rate, so the file doesn't grow.
- A file already under the target comes back unchanged.
- Reads MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV up to 2 GB; AVI, WMV and FLV aren't supported.
Long video, small target: trim first
Every second shares the same budget, so a ten-minute video squeezed into 10 MB will look poor however it is encoded; cut it to the part you need with Trim video first. Encoding uses your browser's own video engine (WebCodecs): current Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer, Safari 16.4 or later, or Chrome on Android. Long videos are much faster on a computer. If the browser can't encode H.264, the result is a WebM (VP9 and Opus), which plays in browsers, Discord and Android but may not on an iPhone.
- Compare the final size in the result with the limit, and play the video through once.
- Look at fast motion and dark scenes, where compression shows first.
- Upload limits change; check the service's current number and use the custom field.
Compress video: questions
How do I get a video under 10 MB for Discord?
Choose the 10 MB target and leave Resolution on Auto. For clips longer than a minute or so, trim to the part you need first; every second shares the same budget. Discord's limits change, so check the number it shows if an upload fails.
What size should I pick to email a video?
About 20 MB. Gmail and Outlook limits are 20–25 MB, and attachments grow by roughly a third when encoded for sending. If an email still bounces, try 18 MB or share a cloud link instead.
Why was the resolution lowered?
On Auto, the picture size steps down when the bitrate is too thin for it, because a sharp 720p looks better than a blocky 1080p. Choose Keep to hold the original size.
Will it be exactly the size I chose?
It aims a little under. The real size is checked after encoding, and if it went over, the video is encoded once more at a lower bitrate. If it still can't fit, the result offers a lower resolution to try.
Which formats and browsers work?
MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV up to 2 GB; not AVI, WMV or FLV. You need a browser with WebCodecs: current Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer, Safari 16.4 or later, or Chrome on Android.
Is my video uploaded to compress it?
No. It's decoded and encoded by your browser's own video engine, so even a 2 GB file never leaves your device.
