Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.
To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Specific jobsResize video for TikTok
Change resolution, or reshape a video for social apps
A 4K phone clip is far more than a website, a slideshow or a chat app needs, and Reels, Shorts and TikTok want a vertical 9:16 frame while Instagram feed posts look best at 4:5 or square. Resize video lowers the resolution and can crop the picture from the centre to one of those shapes, in one pass.
- Turning 4K or 1080p footage into 720p for a website, LMS or presentation.
- Cropping a landscape clip to 9:16 for Reels, Shorts or TikTok.
- Making a square 1:1 or 4:5 version for an Instagram feed post.
Resolution sets the short side; frame sets the shape
720p means the short side becomes 720 pixels, so a portrait video comes out 720 wide and a landscape one 720 tall. The bitrate is worked out from the new pixel count, so the picture keeps about the same quality per pixel as the original rather than being squeezed to a file size. Pick a frame shape to crop from the centre; Original keeps the full picture.
- 1080p: full HD, for anything watched full screen.
- 720p: the usual choice for the web and chat apps, about half the pixels of 1080p.
- 480p and 360p: previews and very slow connections.
Never enlarged, and crops cut edges
A video is never scaled up: picking 1080p on a 720p clip does nothing. Cropping to a new shape removes what lies outside the centre frame, so check that people at the edges are still in shot. If you need a specific file size rather than a resolution, use Compress video instead.
- Watch the start and end of the result.
- Needs a browser with WebCodecs: current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari 16.4+.
Resize video: questions
What does 720p mean for a vertical video?
The short side becomes 720 pixels. A vertical phone video comes out 720 × 1280, a landscape one 1280 × 720.
How do I make a video 9:16 for Reels or TikTok?
Choose the 9:16 frame. The picture is cropped from the centre to that shape, so keep the subject in the middle of the shot.
Will resizing make the file smaller?
Usually yes, because fewer pixels need fewer bits. If you need to hit a specific size like 25 MB, use Compress video, which plans the bitrate around the size.
Can it make a video bigger, like 720p to 1080p?
No. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so the tool never scales a video up.
Is the video uploaded?
No. It is decoded and re-encoded in your browser with WebCodecs.
