To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to convert MOV to MP4

Drop the MOV and save. If the video inside is H.264, it is copied into an MP4 untouched, which takes seconds and loses no quality. iPhone MOVs recorded in High Efficiency use HEVC, which is re-encoded to H.264 for wider compatibility, and that takes longer. AAC or MP3 audio is copied as-is.

Step by step

  1. 01Drop the MOV file (up to 2 GB).
  2. 02Leave Always re-encode to H.264 off unless the MP4 won't play somewhere.
  3. 03Press Convert and download the MP4.

Why MOV files need converting

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. Macs and iPhones play it, but some Windows apps, Android devices, smart TVs, upload forms and editors expect MP4. MP4 and MOV are close relatives, so when the video is already H.264 the conversion is just a re-wrap.

Copied or re-encoded

Which path your file takes depends on the codec inside, not the file extension.

  • H.264 video: copied, seconds, identical quality.
  • HEVC (iPhone High Efficiency): re-encoded to H.264, slower, very slight quality change.
  • Always re-encode to H.264: forces the re-encode, useful if an old player or editor still refuses the file.

Questions

Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?

Not when the MOV holds H.264: the video is copied bit for bit. HEVC videos are re-encoded, which changes quality very slightly.

Why is my iPhone video slow to convert?

It was recorded in High Efficiency (HEVC). Converting it to H.264 means decoding and encoding every frame, which depends on your device's speed.

Which browsers work?

Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and Safari 16.4 or later. The conversion needs WebCodecs, the browser's built-in video engine.

Is my video uploaded to convert it?

No. It's converted in this browser tab, so even a 2 GB file never leaves your device.
