Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

Strip names and software details before sharing a PDF

Documents exported from work computers often carry the author's name, the company's software and a title from an old template. Clearing those fields is a simple privacy step before posting a PDF publicly or sending it to someone outside your organisation. It's a first step, not a full clean-up: see the limits below.

  • Removing your name from the Author field of a CV or report.
  • Clearing an embarrassing leftover title from a reused template.
  • Tidying files before publishing them on a website.

Clears the common properties in one step

Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer are cleared, and the modification date is set to now. The pages themselves are copied without change.

  • Run PDF Metadata Viewer on the result to confirm what remains.

Not a full sanitiser

The original creation date may remain, and extended XMP metadata, comments, attachments and form data are not removed. Personal information printed on the pages themselves is, of course, untouched.

  • Check the result with PDF Metadata Viewer.
  • Fill in forms and remove comments in your PDF editor if those also need to go.

Remove PDF metadata: questions

Which fields are removed?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator app and producer are cleared, and the modification date is set to the time you run the tool.

Does it remove everything that could identify me?

No. The original creation date may remain, and extended XMP metadata, comments, attachments and anything printed on the pages aren't touched.

Does removing metadata change how the PDF looks?

No. Pages are copied unchanged; only the properties are cleared.

How can I check it worked?

Open the cleaned file in PDF Metadata Viewer.
