Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

See the hidden properties stored in a PDF

PDFs often carry an author name, the software that made them and creation dates. It is worth a look before you send a document externally, or when you need to know when and with what a file was produced.

  • Checking whether your name or your employer's name is in the Author field before sharing.
  • Finding out which app produced a PDF when troubleshooting printing issues.
  • Seeing the creation and modification dates of a received document.
  • Checking that a document's title is set properly before publishing, since browsers show it in the tab.

Reads the standard document properties

The report shows Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (the authoring app), Producer (the PDF library), creation and modification dates, and page count. Empty fields show as null.

  • To clear these fields, use Remove PDF Metadata.

Dates and names are only as reliable as the software that wrote them

Metadata can be edited by anyone and isn't proof of when a document was created. The viewer reads the standard document information fields; extended XMP metadata isn't shown.

PDF metadata viewer: questions

What is PDF metadata?

Properties stored inside the file: title, author, subject, keywords, the app that created it, the software that produced the PDF, and creation and modification dates.

Can metadata show who created a PDF?

It shows what the creating software recorded, often the computer's user name. It can be edited, so it isn't proof of authorship.

Why are most fields empty?

Many apps don't fill them in, and some sites strip them. Empty fields are normal.

How do I remove this information?

Use Remove PDF Metadata to clear the common fields, then check the result here.
