Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to pixelate part of a photo

Drop the photo and draw a box over each area to hide; the inside turns into large square blocks. Press Find faces to detect faces automatically and add a box over each one. Strength runs from 1 to 10: higher means bigger blocks and less detail left.

Step by step

  1. 01Drop the photo; Pixelate at strength 6 is set.
  2. 02Draw boxes over the areas to hide, or press Find faces.
  3. 03Raise the strength if anything is still recognisable.
  4. 04Download the result.

Find faces runs on your device

Find faces uses a MediaPipe face detection model of about 3.7 MB, downloaded once and then run in your browser. It adds a box over each face it finds. Check the result: small, blurry or side-on faces can be missed, and you can draw extra boxes by hand.

Use Black box for text

Pixelation hides faces well, but pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be partly reconstructed, especially short numbers in a known font. For passwords, card numbers, ID numbers and account details, switch to Black box, which replaces the pixels completely.

  • Faces and number plates: Pixelate or Blur.
  • Passwords, card and ID numbers: Black box.
  • Screenshots with personal details: Black box.

Questions

How do I pixelate a face in a photo?

Press Find faces to box every detected face, or draw a box over it yourself. Raise the strength until the face can't be recognised.

Can pixelation be undone?

The downloaded image only contains the blocks, not the original pixels. But pixelated text can sometimes be partly guessed, so use Black box for sensitive numbers.

What's the difference between Pixelate and Blur?

Pixelate replaces the area with big square blocks; Blur smooths it into a soft smear. Both hide faces; pick the look you prefer.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Pixelation and face detection both run in this browser tab.
