Counted with the browser's Performance API during the last job. It sees every request the page makes, but not what is inside them, so anything that is not a static download is counted above.

To check yourself: open DevTools → Network, clear the list, run the tool, and inspect each request. None will contain your file. You can also switch to offline after the page loads; tools whose engine is already downloaded keep working.

How to remove a PDF password

Add the PDF and type its open password. The tool decrypts it with qpdf running in your browser and saves an unlocked copy. PDFs that only restrict printing or copying (no open password) are unlocked without any password. It cannot recover a password you don't know.

Step by step

  1. 01Add the PDF.
  2. 02Type the open password if it asks for one.
  3. 03Unlock and download the new copy.
  4. 04Store it privately: it no longer needs a password.

Open password or owner password

An open (user) password stops the file opening at all. An owner password only restricts printing, copying or editing. The tool checks which kind your file has as soon as you add it, and only asks for a password when one is needed.

Why do it at all

Typing a password every time is tedious for a file you keep, and many tools (mergers, compressors, upload portals) refuse encrypted PDFs. An unlocked copy works everywhere.

Questions

Can it remove a password I've forgotten?

No, and it doesn't try to guess one. Ask the sender, or check the email or letter that came with the file for the format.

Is my PDF or password sent anywhere?

No. Both stay in this browser tab; the network meter on the tool shows 0 B sent.

Which encryption does it support?

Standard password security: RC4 40/128-bit and AES-128/256, the kinds banks, offices and Acrobat use. Certificate-based encryption is not supported.
